Stop Your Sh*t Shoveling is about how we get stuck in old patterns of behaviors (at work, in relationships, with parents) that make us feel sick or unhappy.
Most of us will shovel some sh*t at some time in our lives, but most of us will learn how to move beyond those old dysfunctional behaviors. There are some people however, who bitch and moan about their sh*t endlessly but never get over it. I call these people sh*t shovelers, they think that talking about their misery is doing something to change it when all they’re doing is shoveling it from one pile to another.
If you do this long enough it gets harder and harder to stop that behavior. Using the same, worn brain pathways gets us into deep ruts, and the only difference between a rut and a grave is its depth.
Before you get too miserable, there is some good news; it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing it, the brain has the capacity to reprogram itself. The only catch is, you have to give it new directions.
“This magnificent new book by Dr. Carl Hammerschlag, is an important work that embodies some desperately-needed down-to-earth wisdom for biding our time on Earth. I highly recommend the book to everyone who gives a shit”.
